Ski and sail private charters
The experience
For winter sports enthusiasts tired of the same old crowded slopes, our private ski and sail charters help you get some adventure and adrenaline back in your skis.
Charter your own skippered vessel from our fleet of adaptable, polar-hardened, go-anywhere expedition ships, and we’ll take you to pristine slopes in some of the wildest locations on Earth.
Use the ship as a floating basecamp to explore and ski from as your expert guide scopes out the perfect mountains for you to conquer. When you’re done for the day, enjoy your après-ski on board, and we’ll whisk you and your party off to the next unforgettable run.
Destinations
Head north to take on the rugged mountains of Svalbard. Sitting above 79º north, the archipelago is a frontier skiing destination, a million miles from the genteel slopes of Aspen and Zermatt.
May is a great month for ski and sail private charters in Svalbard, with 24-hour daylight, the snow still fresh on the ground, and the sea ice retreating, clearing a path into the wilderness.
There are only 60 kms of roads on the entire island of Greenland, so ski tourers need an expedition-style yacht to scope out the island’s must-ski slopes. You won’t be scoping for long. East Greenland and the capital region, in particular, are gifts for adventurous skiers looking for challenging runs amid spectacular scenery.
Our expedition ships offer unrivalled access to the Lyngen Alps in Norway, a place of outstanding mountain skiing in alpine scenery, high above the Arctic Circle. Sailing from Tromsø, which has great international connections, we will ski some of the finest backcountry in Norway.
Is there any greater brag for adventure skiers than skiing the world’s most remote and underexplored continent? Zipping down the mountains of the Antarctic Peninsula, towards the glacier-crowned cliffs and turquoise icebergs of the coast, is an elemental rush. Not your everyday ski session.
We love skiing the rugged Westfjords region of Iceland in March, which is virtually inaccessible if you’re not travelling by expedition yacht. As your skis trace pictures in the newly laid snow, you’re treated to the rare experience of skiing down right to the fjord’s shores.
Ski and sail yachts for charter
Our fleet of ice-strengthened, go-anywhere vessels are ideal for getting you to remote slopes of picture-perfect snow in the wildest destinations on Earth. High-performance, low-impact, and kitted out with all the home comforts you might need, we sail expedition-style ships that go deep into the environment, taking you and your ‘crew’ to new ski locations each day.

Ski and sail private charters FAQs
What sailing experience do I require?
The great thing about ski and sail is that you don’t require any previous sailing experience: our private charters come with a professional skipper and crew on board.
What skiing experience do I require?
You require at least some prior skiing experience and should be confident – all trips involve skiing in remote areas. Some destinations call for more experienced skiers, some less. Work with us to create an experience that suits you and your team.
Is it possible to snowboard?
Yes, but it is recommended that you use a split board with skins. Snowshoes can also work. If you have any questions, please get in touch prior to booking.
Do we use ski guides?
You are welcome to bring your own ski guide or Secret Atlas can provide a ski guide for you. Our guides have good knowledge and know the lands we sail like the backs of their hands. If you are organising your own charter and need assistance finding a guide, please get in touch.
How much sailing/skiing do we do during the trips?
On ski and sail trips, skiing is the main focus. The expedition ship is our floating basecamp that is used to get us from mountain to mountain. On a typical day, we’ll ski, then sail. The weather and route will also dictate how much sailing time is required.
Will I get seasick?
Our expedition ships are very stable in comparison to a sailing yacht. Seasickness varies from individual to individual. If you feel you may be susceptible to seasickness, we recommend bringing sea sickness medication with you, which is available at most pharmacies.
Our crew will be able to give you advice on preventing seasickness. such as avoiding alcohol, keeping hydrated, and getting a good amount of rest.
What are the sailing conditions like during the Arctic winter?
Arctic sailing during the winter is an exhilarating experience and not as extreme as it sounds. The weather conditions can vary from calm days to windy days. Depending on your chosen destination, you can often have fair weather and milder conditions.
The interior of the boats are kept warm, so you won’t feel cold at night. And, as skiers, nothing beats waking up to a snow-covered deck in the morning. You know you’re in for a good day on the mountains.
Is it possible to rent sailing gear and skiing equipment?
This depends on the trip and the area of operation. Please contact us in advance with your requirements and what you would like to rent. We will instruct you on the best way to do it.
