A special vintage

MV Cape Race is a legend of the seas, built in 1963 as the first ever steel trawler made in Canada. In 2008 she was converted into the beauty she is today and started a new life as an expedition vessel. Today she explores the Arctic, offering guests a rare combination of timeless style and comfort.

What we love about Cape Race

MV Cape Race in Svalbard Secret Atlas

A ship with history…

Cape Race was built in 1963 as a fishing trawler – and she has lived many lives since then! She even has a biography written about her.

… and class

Cape Race wears her age beautifully, with charmingly vintage interiors that transport you back through time. All varnished wood and buffed brass, she is a romantic vision of the maritime past.

Rebuilt for the modern day

But Cape Race isn’t resting on her laurels. Her spacious cabins have been tastefully modernised with modern ensuites, and her ice strengthened hull and two Zodiacs mean she is ready for adventure.

Uncommon common areas

The communal areas on Cape Race are a class apart. The saloon is a particularly dreamy space, with a piano ready to be played long into the polar night.

The atmospheric saloon is the hub of life aboard Cape Race. Tickle the ivories on the resident piano, or simply unwind by the fire.

On deck

It’s true that Cape Race’s interior takes many of the design plaudits. But her outdoor deck space is large and marvellously arranged to provide a huge amount of wildlife-viewing and photography space, with an accessible bow deck, and covered stern and side decks.
