The ultimate Greenland experience – a unique, epic adventure into Northeast Greenland National Park, the world’s largest national park, and Scoresbysund, the longest fjord system on Earth.

This mighty 12 and 14-day expedition gives you the best of both worlds, taking in two of the world’s most remote destinations in one epic adventure. Explore the mythical Scoresbysund fjord system before pushing on into Greenland’s wild heart – Northeast Greenland National Park – a vast protected area only a lucky few have the privilege to experience first-hand.

Natural pantheons of sublime scenery, both lands are rich with geological wonder and Arctic wildlife, including polar bears, reindeer, musk oxen, and narwhals.

Did you know? Northeast Greenland National Park is so vast it covers more than a quarter of Greenland, the largest island on Earth. Unbelievably, it is larger than 166 of the planet’s 195 countries!

This adventure is our longest expedition ever.

You’ll need every second of it to explore all Scoresbysund and Northeast Greenland National Park have to offer.

Nature unlimited.

Marvel at the natural world on a completely new scale during this fortnight of exploration in Greenland, taking in two of the most significant environments on the planet: Scoresbysund and Northeast Greenland National Park.

First, we explore Scoresbysund, a labyrinthine network of deep-cut fjords carved into the east coast of Greenland, known for its still waters littered with idiosyncratically sculpted icebergs.

Next, we set a course for Northeast Greenland National Park – the road even less travelled, a badge of honour for true wilderness pioneers. Even fewer adventurers have been lucky enough to experience this perspective-defying crucible of glacier-crowned valleys and art-gallery icebergs, reflected in the mirrorlike waters of its fjords.

No explorer forgets the first time they sailed into Kong Oscar Fjord, the gateway to the national park, stretching out for 16 miles at its widest point, strewn with icebergs and floes of infinite variety. Glacier tongues push dramatically down to the shoreline of Kaiser Franz Joseph Fjord, presided over by the imposing Teufelsschloss (The Devil's Castle), a fiendishly red peak. This is wilderness at its most atmospheric.

At all moments, keep a lookout for Greenland’s iconic wildlife – polar bears, musk oxen, narwhals, Arctic foxes, and more – gracing the shores and waters. Wildlife encounters are more common within the protected lands of the national park.

Our longest expedition ever, this is the choice for wilderness pioneers and adventurers.

Expedition highlights

  • A full 12 or 14 days of exploration – our longest expedition yet is the ultimate Greenland adventure

  • Two natural wonders, one wonder-filled adventure: marvel at Scoresbysund fjord system before venturing even further into the wild heart of nature in Northeast Greenland National Park

  • Take in Arctic landscapes of towering icebergs, monumental glaciers, and mesmerising fjords on a scale unlike anywhere else on Earth

  • Visit the remote settlement of Ittoqqortoormiit and learn about the unique Greenlandic way of life

  • Spot Greenland’s iconic wildlife – musk oxen, seabirds, seals, narwhals, reindeer, polar bears – in their Arctic home. Sightings are more common in the protected area of the national park

Experiences

We don’t follow a fixed itinerary

We prefer to embrace spontaneity and make the most of every opportunity nature presents to us. This is how we believe a true, authentic expedition should run. After all, the thrill of adventuring into the unknown is more rewarding than a journey that runs on tracks!

So all our listed itineraries are for guidance only. The day-to-day activities may vary depending on the ice, the weather, and the wildlife. Landings are subject to site availability and permissions, and always in line with AECO regulations.

For even more flexibility, get in touch about making this a private yacht charter.

Why Secret Atlas?

Because we’re explorers, delivering expeditions for explorers like you.

We’re fuelled by the long-lost spirit of adventure, guided by environmental and cultural responsibility, and committed to creating transformative travel experiences.

We’re pioneers of the Expedition Micro Cruise, offering the smallest group sizes at both poles. That means a flexible itinerary. It means more time exploring and photographing. It means a deeper connection with your team and the natural world.

We understand that, out here, less is more. Less waiting to board Zodiacs, more time ashore. Less strict itineraries, more adventure. Less crowd, more immersion.

That’s why we’re not just small. We’re micro.

FAQs

How physically fit do I need to be?

To get the most from a Secret Atlas expedition, it’s important to be stable on your feet and able to undertake short hikes. But there’s no requirement to undertake any given activity, and we usually split into two groups: those who want to go to the top of the hill, and those who’d prefer a more leisurely stroll at the bottom (or a Zodiac cruise!).

How much luggage can I bring?

The charter flight offers a more generous baggage allowance than most commercial airline flights to Greenland, with each guest able to bring 23kg check-in, 5kg hand luggage, and one small personal item.

Where does this expedition depart from?

All our East Greenland expeditions start with a charter flight from Keflavik International Airport, Iceland, to Nerlerit Inaat Airport (Constable Point Airport) in East Greenland, where you will board your Secret Atlas micro expedition vessel.

Why is an Expedition Micro Cruise the best way to explore Greenland?

Unlike larger vessels with higher passenger capacities, our voyages are personal and unique in their approach. Travelling with a small group of guests means more time exploring, more flexibility, and less time waiting to board Zodiacs and go ashore.

Our small expedition vessels will get you closer to nature and more immersed in the landscape than larger ships, offering you a more transportative and transformative experience with no crowds or queuing.

Are there any photo or video restrictions in Greenland?

Guests are not permitted to use drones during the expedition. In any case a drone is being used during your expedition, it will be for professional use only by a member of the Secret Atlas team with the required permissions.

Limitations are in place to protect the wildlife we encounter. Often, it is not possible to get up-close to the wildlife we see. For more information, check out the ‘Visitor Guidelines’.
