Our Expedition Micro Cruise concept is built on conscious travel, and as these rules aim to protect the Arctic environment and its wildlife – naturally, Secret Atlas welcomes steps towards protecting the wilderness.
The good news? An Expedition Micro Cruise is the most immersive way to experience Svalbard. With our small group sizes, we can access more remote locations, spend more time ashore, and offer you the freedom to explore with the environment and wildlife in mind.

Whether you're using a professional camera with a large lens or simply your phone, there is no shortage of breathtaking moments to photograph.
However, please note that from from the 1st of January 2025 it is forbidden to operate a drone in Svalbard’s numerous nature reserves and national parks, which cover the vast majority of the archipelago. This restriction applies to all operators and is enforced by the Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators (AECO) in line with Norwegian law, as Svalbard falls under Norwegian jurisdiction.
These restrictions are in place to protect the wildlife we encounter. In many cases, getting close to animals is not possible or permitted to ensure minimal disturbance to their natural behavior.
For more information, please refer to the official AECO Visitor Guidelines and Svalbard Environmental Protection Act
