Miriam Vermeij
Expedition Leader
Expertise
As an expedition leader and guide, Miriam enjoys connecting with people. With a listening ear, clear communication, and a blend of firm rules when needed and lots of fun, she ensures each trip is memorable and well-organised.
Impact
Miriam also works as a nature guide in the Netherlands, where she has developed an interactive programme for school children visiting the local forest. She managed the entire planning process and incorporated lessons on various nature topics, such as birds, plants, and insects. Each year, over 3,000 school children visit the forest and continue to enjoy the programme.
Style
Miriam encourages people to discover things for themselves in a gentle and supportive way. After a trip with her, you’ll find yourself noticing animals and plants you have never seen or appreciated before, even at home. Her guidance transforms the way you view the world.
“I love guiding on small expedition ships since it offers unique opportunities to explore remote places and encounter amazing wildlife.”

Questions & Answers
My most transformative travel experience
My most memorable travel experience was during a walking safari in Zambia. After a day out, we struggled to return to the lodge because sleeping elephants, having gorged on fermented marula fruits, were lying all around. They had eaten so much fruit that they were drunk and sleepy!
My exploration inspiration
Shackleton is the figure from expeditionary history who inspires me the most. Imagine having to find a way out of such a miserable situation and surviving without the waterproof clothing and navigational tools we have today. He shows us what it means to never give up!
My dream adventure
After exploring so many cold-weather destinations, I’m planning a trip to Curaçao to discover the underwater world. Later, I’m also planning a campervan adventure through Norway.
