Questions & Answers

My most transformative travel experience

My most memorable travel experience is seeing the Antarctic for the first time. I was hired by the United States Antarctic Program to work at McMurdo Station back in 1996. We flew in from Christchurch, New Zealand, and the moment I stepped off the plane and stepped foot on the sea ice, my first breath almost took me to my knees – it was SO cold. I’ll never forget that moment.

My exploration inspiration

I would have to split this one between the Heroic Age of Exploration and what those individuals endured to open the polar regions to our collective consciousness. The other would definitely be the science that has been going on for decades in both polar regions, allowing human beings to better understand the Earth and how it and we are all connected.

My dream adventure

My dream destination after working in the polar regions is to not have to gear up in extreme cold weather gear every day, lie on a deserted beach in some tropical area with my flyrod within reach, and hit the flats to find some sport fish of any kind…
